Growing up with Italian parents, food and drink have always been an integral and important part of the lives of Mia and Melody, otherwise known as La Triestina. Regular and popular features on the Food Festival circuit, we love the ladies and look forward to sharing their authentic, quality, Italian fare each year. Here we are in conversation with Mia and Melody as they prepare for Festival season to begin.

Occupation:   Owners of La Triestina a small family run business based in Shropshire specialising in fine Italian food and wine.

In three words describe LA TRIESTINA:   Authentic, Italian, Quality.

Tell us what readers can expect when they find you at the Ludlow Food & Spring Festival? 

Passionate, friendly people behind the stand offering samples of our products such as cheese, salame, aged balsamic vinegar and wine, whilst giving great advice. 

How did LA TRIESTINA start?  

3 years ago in our home town of Trieste, sat outside a bar sipping Prosecco , we wanted to share our passion and knowledge of good food to the British consumer and promote our region Friuli Venezia Giulia.

What is special about LA TRIESTINA? A local female run family business focusing on their passion for good Italian food, we love to eat it, breathe it and sell it.

With all that has been achieved in your business so far, what are you most proud of?

Having created a returning customer base at each Food Festival we attend. It’s nice to have your regulars look for you to buy your products.

Do you have a best-selling product? Why do you think this is?

Our 12 year aged balsamic vinegar and our cheeses are the best selling products, mainly because they are so versatile and can be used in many dishes. The products are no in supermarkets and customer like this uniqueness.

Do you have a favourite product? Why is this? 

At the moment we are loving our chilli and truffle salame - great on its own with some cheese. But we also cook with it and it’s a great base for a pasta sauce just fry it in some olive oil add passata and it just adds more flavour. It’s also gluten and lactose free.

What are you looking forward to most about the Ludlow Food & Spring Festival?

The fantastic atmosphere and the great organisers who really do an amazing job in promoting the festivals and supporting local businesses. As a result this attracts customers who really appreciate good quality produce.
